The Corporate Monitoring Bulletin 8.1
September 27, 2000
Written by Mark Latham
1. MARK LATHAM IN CURRENT BUSINESS WEEK
The October 2 issue of Business Week’s Readers Report section
leads off with my letter on corporate power. See page 19 or

2. TARGETS FOR YEAR 2000-2001 PROPOSAL CAMPAIGN
So far we have chosen three targets for this year’s corporate
monitoring shareowner proposal campaign:
- Gillette [G]
- Kaufman & Broad Home [KBH]
- S3 [SIII]
Coincidentally, both Gillette and KBH are also featured in
the October 2 Business Week, Gillette on page 56 for
generally poor performance, and KBH on page 178 for being
perhaps underpriced. Web links:

3. CORPORATE MONITORING FOR AN INTERNET MUSIC STARTUP?
Do you love Napster but worry about how musicians are going
to get paid? Fairtunes.com makes it easy for music fans to
send voluntary payments to musicians – see
http://www.fairtunes.com
I am advising Fairtunes’ founders on creating a corporate
power structure that will be responsive to shareowners. Our
idea is for Fairtunes stock to be owned by internet users, so
that management accountability to owners will build trust and
reputation of the firm in the eyes of those who use its
services.

The Corporate Monitoring Bulletin was created in November 1999 for those subscribers to the Corporate Monitoring Newsletter who wanted more frequent updates. But finding this need was not strong enough to justify the additional publication, the Bulletin was discontinued in October 2000.
