We've now completed the final week of these awards. Entry deadline was January 22, 2009. Voting was until January 29. See also the UBC AMS $8000 VFM contest; and watch the VoterMedia Democracy Blog for announcements of our planned beta release of a Global Voter Media Platform.
Bloggers: See new info in the above paragraph. [OLD INFO: Win cash prizes by writing a blog for UBC students! Anyone can enter their blog or other media (newspaper, radio station etc.). There's no entry fee. Just email Mark Latham (mark[at]votermedia.org) your blog's URL or other description, and say you agree to the contest terms. It's easy to create a blog with free tools like WordPress or Blogger.]
Award Pool: $200 per period.
Dates: Please vote once per period. Votes will be tallied and prizes awarded on one more future date -- January 29, 2009.
Voters: Any UBC student can vote -- log in and register for the VoterMedia "course" here, or search for it here. Once you've registered, you can return to vote at www.vista.ubc.ca. We suggest voting once a period, but you can vote whenever you want; only your last vote will count. If your last vote is in the latest period, it counts 100%; 1 period old counts 80%; 2 periods old 60% etc. Votes over 5 periods old not counted.
Ballot: You vote by typing in how much award you would give each media/blog. Max award $100.
Judging Criteria: Voters can evaluate contestants any way they choose. Contestants can appeal to voters any way they choose.
University of British Columbia's Alma Mater Society is coordinating with VoterMedia.org founder Mark Latham, who is sponsoring and administering this contest. Our goals are to promote student awareness and engagement in AMS issues and elections.
